So what happens when one of your very best friends gets pregnant only a year after you? Well, you spend the long months chatting about babies and planning an epic maternity shoot. How perfect of Katy to be pregnant at the exact right time of year for glowy golden pictures. It’s kind of like a gift to me really. Thanks Katy 🙂 Big thanks to Amborella Floral Studio for the gorgeous crown and bouquet and Trena Laine for her ever fabulous talent in the hair and makeup realm. It was one of those evenings that we chased the light. We worked with the grove of trees, did some other stuff and on our way back, we just had to do more. I can’t believe there isn’t much time left before I get to snuggle a brand new squishy babe. Katy and Brett have got this, that is for certain. The real question is does Farley know what he’s in for?

It really is such an honor to develop relationships with my wedding couples, to get to know them over the course of a year or so and then spend an intimate and emotion-packed day with them. I tend to leave our final meeting feeling like I have two new friends. I was actually just talking about this with one of my fall couples about how happy I am with all of my clients and how I think that what you ‘put out there’ is what you get back in return. I strive to be positive, happy and easy-going in every aspect of my life (most of the time! I am so not perfect) and I feel blessed to say that my couples unilaterally reflect that. Charlene and Riley are no exception. In fact, Charlene is a Labor and Delivery nurse and helped me a great deal last year when I was dealing with a few pregnancy related complications. She practically wrote me a novel and set my mind at ease. I was thrilled to hear the good news, and delighted that they wanted me to photograph their maternity session. I haven’t been to Big Hill Springs since last year and couldn’t wait to be back and explore again. We were beyond lucky with the weather, it seemed to be raining all around us but never on us and I love the results. Enjoy!

One of the greatest parts about being a wedding photographer is meeting so many awesome people, sharing one of the most important days of their lives and then watching their relationship grow to include more awesome (little) people. Now that I have my own little guy, I’m not shooting newborns (I have some amazing referrals though!) but I am still photographing maternity and families with babes over 6 months. I captured Jackie and Brian’s {surprise} wedding last year (and yes it was amazing and I loved every second) and was so thrilled when Jackie booked me to document her beautiful belly. She looks incredible! And Brian’s not so bad himself. He is awesome because we (Jackie and I) keep subjecting him to subzero temperatures for the photo sessions (their wedding was in November and it was COLD) and he still keeps a smile on his face and some sarcasm in the air. I love these two and I am so excited to see their family grow!

One of the greatest parts of my job is documenting the changing lives of my couples. Multiple times at that. I photographed Stacey and Chris a couple years ago with their first wee babe and now I got to do it all over again. My favourite part of the shoot was getting something that I call a “session ending shot”. It’s a photo I get that essentially encapsulates everything I wanted to achieve that day. Sometimes it is extremely evident and other times it’s more subtle. For this shoot, it practically knocked me over. Little Chase was being slightly un cooperative, well she’s just over a year old so anything that isn’t screaming is great… But I got Momma and Chase together and she was so happy and smiley and bam. Session ending shot. It was toward the end when I could tell we were almost at Chase’s threshold and it truly did end the session.
