I’ve known Katy forever. In fact, if it wasn’t for Katy I would not have met my husband. We met my first year of University and one of the first things she told me was that she had just gotten back from working as a counselor at a camp in Maine. Being that I had just finished a summer in Calgary as a YMCA camp counselor, her experience sounded WAY better. We became really good friends and the next summer, we traveled to Maine together- where I would later meet the man of my dreams, my most wonderful husband from Scotland (of all places). But enough about me, that was over 10 years ago, and over the years Katy and I have had a lot of adventures. We have seen each other through many milestones including completing her first IronMan (she is a machine!) and a few short months later, marrying her man of her own dreams! It was truly thrilling to stand up for her as a bridesmaid on their wedding day- and also a nice interlude to be in front of the camera for a change. Shortly after their wedding, Katy and I were scheming about a Trash the Dress session. Knowing that I had a cabin out in Ontario, we seized the opportunity to make my little work-ation even more spectacular. Katy’s family owns a cottage on Thunder Beach in a little bay off of Georgian Bay and it made the perfect backdrop for this sunset session. One of my favourite moments was seeing what seemed like 30 children pour out of a single cottage and stand on the beach chanting and cheering Katy to “jump!”. We weren’t quite prepared for her to jump in so soon, but since there was lots of light left, Katy figured she could dry her hair and do her makeup again in time for the sunset. On the countdown from 10 down to 1, Katy seemed to shock the children by actually making a run for it and cannon-balling into the water. Apparently, she upset quite a few little girls who ‘didn’t want the princess to get wet!’. The sun set perfectly and my beautiful friend sailed magnificently and me, well I got some pretty amazing images. Enjoy!
