There is an upside and a downside to almost everything in life and Facebook certainly falls into that category. It is a huge timesucker in my life, one that I’m not always certain is valuable. But then there is the fantastic business applications and the fact that I can keep in touch with people I wouldn’t otherwise, in addition to ‘meeting’ family in the middle east (my dad is from palestine!). This is a story on the upside. I belong to a lot of forums, but my among my favourites is a group for Canadian Women Photographers. It’s a massive group comprising women from every province coast to coast. About a month ago as I was preparing for my trip east, I was in the forum and noticed a comment from a girl with the location of ‘near New Liskeard’. I sat and looked at her name for a long time (it was early and my brain wasn’t awake). I recognized the last name, it was familiar. But no, it couldn’t be THE phippens. Or could it? I messaged her immediately and within seconds, Justina confirmed it. Indeed, she is THE Justina Phippen of the Phippen Family. And who are the Phippens? They are the family that own the cottage next door to my family’s cabin on one of the most obscure lakes in a very remote part of north eastern Ontario. Not only that, Justina is engaged to Eric and she jumped at the chance to have an engagement session at her cabin, next door to mine. I never ever thought I would get the chance to shoot at my cabin, there just aren’t that many people! But getting to shoot what I love, for another photographer no less, was thrilling, beyond my wildest expectations. It is such a beautiful place and I am happy to share it with the world! Enjoy! PS: I am planning another ‘Workation’ in the near future to North Eastern Ontario. Be sure to email me at modphoto[at]shaw.ca if you are interested in a session, whether it’s family or wedding!
