I’m just home from a little ‘workation’ in Ontario and I have to say I loved every single minute. I shot A LOT, but it was so refreshing and inspiring to be in new places and have the opportunity to shoot what I love- people and their stories. My husband told me a story a while back about a co-worker asking “if I shoot for fun.” He told me he answered “No, she doesn’t”. My jaw dropped. I was appalled. Shocked. It made me feel sad. But then I thought about it and started considering what people (read: my husband apparently!) might regard as “shooting for fun”… For me, I am not a nature shooter, I don’t get my kicks from shooting rivers or flowers or still life. For me, “shooting for fun” is what I do on a daily basis, I tell people’s stories- whether it’s  a wedding, maternity, family session or for a SWERVE magazine editorial- this is what gets my heart pumping and my hands shaking with energy. I feel really REALLY lucky that I get paid to ‘shoot for fun’, that I am privileged to be let into my clients’ lives and document their memories forever. About a month ago, I received a message from Katie, an old high school friend, exclaiming how much she loved my work and asking if there was any chance I was going to be in the Ontario area in the next few months. Just by pure luck really, I had a trip planned to Toronto, my cabin in north eastern ontario, and to georgian bay- all locations I would be shooting at. Katie immediately jumped on the chance and booked me and we arranged it for the day I was second shooting for my dear friend, Hope (www.h2photo.ca) at the Kortright Centre in Woodbridge Ontario. I was over the moon excited to actually get to shoot my own client at such a spectacular venue. Hello maples, where have you been all my life??!! Enjoy!
