To say that I’m excited to shoot Kayla and Nixon’s wedding is an understatement. Kayla and I realized in the process of planning for their engagement shoot that we are excellent at scheming together. I love taking my clients’ ideas and bringing them to life and certainly working together to find the perfect props was essential. I do like a good set-up, but I try and stay away from them unless it is relevant to my clients. Indeed, a picnic was perfect for this beautiful couple. About a year ago in the spring, Nixon planned a picnic for Kayla. Prior to this picnic, Nixon spent a good few hours painstakingly unsealing fortune cookies from their wrappers, and using tweezers to remove the fortune inside and replace it with his own “Kayla, will you marry me” paper. Apparently, it only took him two failed attempts before he successfully replaced two fortunes in two cookies. He even went as far as resealing the plastic wrapper! I loved his analytical thinking in that he had two cookies with identical messages since he wasn’t sure which one Kayla would pick. On the day of the picnic, the weather didn’t cooperate. Nixon insisted they persevere through the cold and found this very gazebo to set out their lunch, all the while wearing parkas and mittens. The rest is history and quite obviously Kayla said YES. I loved recreating their story and cannot wait for their “&” themed wedding. Kayla is a design graduate from ACAD and has basically thought of and designed everything for their day. Bring on the details! Love these two, thank you for making my job so easy and for the to-die-for cupcakes!
